Bill Simmons’s website, The Ringer, is seeking full-time fall interns to assist with sitewide endeavors. Duties will include fact checking, research assistance, data analysis, interview transcribing, photo gathering, story production and other CMS work, and general office help. Interns will chiefly be responsible for supporting the copy desk and assisting the editors and writers. A/V editing skills and social media know-how are a bonus, and being able to fact check in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment is imperative. Interns will have the opportunity to write.
Interns should have a working knowledge of content management systems, Slack, Trello, Photoshop, and relevant social media platforms, as well as a passion for sports, pop culture, or technology — and ideally all three. Preferred qualifications include experience at a student newspaper, magazine, or podcast network; at least one prior internship in a professional environment; experience as both a writer and editor; demonstrated experience creating content on the latest social media platforms; and a fundamental ability to make sound editorial judgments and balance conflicting priorities. Please submit a résumé, three writing samples, and a cover letter outlining why you’re the right fit for The Ringer.
Location and Housing
Candidates must be willing to relocate to either Los Angeles, where Ringer headquarters is based, or New York, where we have a bureau. Candidates must provide their own housing and transportation. Parking will be provided in L.A.
Program Length and Schedule
While the time frame is negotiable, applicants must be able to stay in Los Angeles or New York for a minimum of 12 weeks. Interns will work 40 hours per week and will be expected to work unconventional hours, including nights, weekends, and possible holiday shifts. Applicants must be able to begin work by mid-September.
Interns will be paid an hourly rate of $11, but can also request to receive course credit. Full-time interns are eligible for overtime.
Additional Information and Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university, in good academic standing, and available for employment within 12 months of the internship. Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization and should be on track to graduate in the spring or summer of 2018.
Please submit your application materials (résumé, three writing samples, and a cover letter) to firstname.lastname@example.org and put “Fall Internship” in the subject line.
