‘Game of Thrones’ Meme Bracket: Vote in the Finals!

Can Jon Snow vs. Everyone be stopped? Or will (unrequited) love conquer all? You decide.

All of the best Game of Thrones conflicts feature beloved characters going head to head. At the Battle of the Blackwater, Tyrion Lannister and Davos Seaworth are on opposing sides. The Battle of Castle Black pits Jon Snow against Ygritte. In the Loot Train Attack, Jaime nearly dies attacking Daenerys. And in the Great Battle of the Memes, Jon Snow will go up against Brienne and Tormund.

That’s right, our Finals has been set. Jon vs. Everyone absolutely demolished Drogon vs. Loot Train, earning a whopping 83 percent of the vote. The White Wolf may have faced long odds at the actual Battle of the Bastards, but the third-seeded meme enters the Finals as a heavy favorite after a string of similarly lopsided performances.

On the other side of the bracket, Tormund and Brienne narrowly defeated Tyrion Dancing in the Final Four, gathering 53 percent of votes. The dwarf of Casterly Rock may be Thrones’ most popular character, but even he could not overcome the power of true love. Or … at least Tormund’s true love for Brienne, and her extreme repulsion. That mix of emotions is classic meme fodder, though—no wonder the 2-seed has made it all the way to the Finals.

Which will ultimately wear the meme crown? On the one hand, Jon vs. Everyone is one of the most versatile memes in our entire bracket, good for any situation in which a protagonist faces some kind of overwhelming opponent. Tormund and Brienne is a little more complex, expressing two ideas at once: Unrequited love and massive annoyance. Both resonate, but only one can win.

The choice is yours. Vote in our Finals now right here, on Twitter, and on Instagram until polls close at 5 p.m. Eastern.

The Championship

(3) Jon vs. Everyone v. (2) Tormund and Brienne

3. Jon vs. Everyone: The premiere meme for any and all hot takes. Jon’s charge toward the Bolton cavalry in the Battle of the Bastards works for any controversial opinion because internet users are bloodthirsty spectators and social media is our virtual colosseum. When a great hot take enters the arena, it doesn’t matter who is unsheathing their sword against the galloping hordes of groupthink. It only matters that we are promised blood.

Don’t be surprised if this meme, like Jon, beats the odds.

2. Tormund and Brienne: The unrequited love that launched a thousand memes.
