Quick Bites on Quick Bites: Idris Elba Has a Need for Speed in ‘Elba vs. Block’

Why? No idea. But we’re not gonna stop him!

Quibi, the latest entrant in the Streaming Wars, launches on Monday. And because Quibi stands for “quick bites,” here’s a quick-bite review of one Quibi’s quick bites.

Elba vs. Block bills itself as a quick bite with “insane stunts, cars, and superstars,” featuring the aforementioned Idris Elba and a dude named Ken Block, who’s a professional rally driver with the Hoonigan Racing Division. I promise I’m not just mashing words together. Rally racing, according to Wikipedia, is “a form of motorsport that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal cars.” And that is what the two men do every episode—they rally against each other, participating in stunts with names like “Wall of Death,” “Car Tightrope,” “Flaming Obstacle Course,” and “Octopus Catapult Pursuit.” (OK, I made that last one up, but you get it.)

In one episode they have to complete a stunt in which they drive a truck on a thin stretch of allotted ground. Sure. I mean, you can watch this kind of stuff on YouTube for free, but if an Oscar-nominated actor wants to do it, damn it, we will watch.
