The Ringer Seeks a Features Editor

The Ringer

The Ringer seeks a features editor to develop written storytelling in its L.A.-based editorial headquarters. This position will work closely with writers and editors on staff, as well as with a network of freelance contributors, to deliver a wide swath of pieces covering sports, popular culture, technology and internet culture, politics, food, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with writers and editors in developing story ideas
  • Act as edit lead or edit support for a full range of projects, from theme-week packages to stand-alone stories, feature profiles, trend pieces, oral histories, nationally focused reporting, travelogues, personal essays, and beyond
  • Manage an editorial calendar and a freelance budget
  • Collaborate with editorial departments—including section editors, art, and copy desk—to execute stories from conception to publication
  • Aid in the planning of content scheduling and production development
  • Most importantly, make smart, creative, industry-leading work you’re proud of

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in digital or magazine journalism
  • Deep understanding of news and story lines, with sound journalistic ethics and judgment
  • Connectivity to a collection of available and eager freelance writing talent
  • Strong writing skills, including a capacity for clever and SEO-friendly headlines
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive under pressure, including working evenings and weekends
  • Extensive knowledge of and curiosity about sports, pop culture, and tech
  • An enthusiasm for The Ringer’s content
