At our Los Angeles headquarters

The Ringer is seeking full-time winter-spring interns to assist with podcast endeavors. Duties will include fact checking, research assistance, data logging, interview transcribing, audio production and other project management, as well as general studio and office help. Interns will chiefly be responsible for supporting the audio producers, editors, and talent. Social media know-how is a bonus, and being detail oriented in a deadline-based environment is imperative. Interns will have the opportunity to pitch and produce pieces.

Qualifications

Interns must have high-level communication, editing, and production skills, as well as basic audio-engineering skills. Candidates should be conversant in or passionate about the topics that drive the Ringer universe: sports, pop culture, technology, politics, and food, just to name the most prominent examples. If you’re deeply committed to one of these areas or are comfortable dabbling in many of them, you might be right for a Ringer internship. Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience at a student radio or podcast network, digital newspaper, or magazine
  • Working knowledge of Avid Pro Tools 12
  • At least one prior professional internship
  • Experience as both an engineer and editor
  • A fundamental ability to make sound editorial judgments and balance conflicting priorities

Location and Housing

Candidates must be willing to relocate to Los Angeles, where Ringer headquarters is based. Editors and staff members can provide informational assistance in finding a place to live, but candidates must provide their own housing and transportation. Parking will be provided.

Program Length and Schedule

While the time frame is negotiable, applicants must be able to stay in Los Angeles for a minimum of 12 weeks. Interns will work up to 40 hours per week and will be expected to work unconventional hours, including nights, weekends, and possible holiday shifts. Applicants must be able to begin work by early January.

Payment

Interns will be paid an hourly rate of $11, but can also request to receive course credit. Full-time interns are eligible for overtime.

Additional Information and Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. college or university, or be no more than one term past their graduation date; in good academic standing if still in school; and available for employment within 12 months of the internship. Candidates must possess unrestricted work authorization and should be on track to graduate in the spring or summer of 2018.

To Apply

Please submit a résumé, three work samples, and a cover letter describing why you’re the right fit for The Ringer to jobs@theringer.com and put “Winter Internship – Podcast” in the subject line. Candidates from underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
