So far in Season 7 of Game of Thrones, Jon Snow has gone against his advisers’ wishes—including in traveling south to Dragonstone.
By risking his life and entering southern territory with only a small contingent of supporters, Jon drew painful parallels for Northerners of Rickard and Brandon Stark leaving the North and dying at the hands of the Mad King, Ned Stark going to King’s Landing and being beheaded on Joffrey’s command, and Catelyn, Robb and Talisa traveling to the Twins and getting massacred at the Red Wedding.
Naturally, Jon’s allies opposed their King opening himself up to the type of danger that took down so many of their past leaders. They made their objections known, but Jon went anyway.
So far, it seems like it’s going OK—he found dragonglass and he may be slowly making an ally out of Daenerys Targaryen—but Jon has a history of making not-so-great decisions. On Sunday’s episode of Talk the Thrones, Mallory Rubin wondered if he’d make another this season and decide to travel to King’s Landing.
From the Season 7 trailers, it’s clear Jon will end up north of the Wall at some point. But might he make a pit stop along the way?
