German soccer club Borussia Dortmund’s Champions League quarterfinal match against A.S. Monaco, scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed after multiple explosions went off near the Dortmund bus as it was leaving the team hotel. The match was to be held at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park. According to the BBC, Dortmund defender Marc Bartra was injured in the explosion, though his injuries are not believed to be serious.
Dortmund’s goalkeeper, Roman Burki, described the explosions (via The Guardian):
The match is now scheduled to take place Wednesday.
Dortmund has announced that Bartra will undergo surgery to remove shrapnel from his arm and repair his fractured right wrist.
Police have found a defective fourth explosive device at the scene as well as a letter claiming responsibility for the attack, though they have not released the contents of the letter nor confirmed its authenticity.
