The premise of Comedy Central’s Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle II: War of the Words is simple: spit fire. Spit hot fire, and burn the competition to the ground.
This Jeff Ross–helmed four-night event starts on January 26 at 10/9c and features a panel of guest judges that includes Snoop Dogg, Sarah Silverman, and Jason Sudeikis. In Roast Battle II, comedians take turns burning one another in one-on-one battles, moving through the bracket until one comedian is crowned the king — or queen — of cruelty. Think of it as 8 Mile, but with fewer Mobb Deep instrumentals and more insults that, somehow, cut even closer to the bone.
Take this one, for instance. (Wait for it.)
Or this one.
Or even this one.
The jokes can be really harsh (see exhibits A, B, and C above). But — as any fan of a good rap battle can tell you — some of the purest forms of creativity emerge in trial-by-fire settings. All of Roast Battle II’s comedians are brave enough to get up in front of a teeming audience and put their joke-crafting abilities to the test in about as high pressure a situation as there is.
I mean, can you imagine being told that you look like MTV2 if MTV2 became a man?
How do you come back from that? I’m not sure that you do!
