Bain’s lack of arm length is going to be a major talking point in the run-up to the draft, but the team that takes him is going to get a high-intensity edge defender who rushes the passer with overwhelming zeal and plenty of power. The former Hurricanes star has a burly, high-cut, and muscular build with a massive, powerful lower half. Bain played primarily on the edge in his college career, but also saw snaps on the interior. He filled up the stat sheet in 2025, tallying the second-most pressures in the country (66, per PFF) while adding 37 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a pick; his 30 percent win rate on true pass set situations ranked 23rd among edge defenders (minimum 100 snaps). Bain is explosive out of his stance to get upfield and covers ground with long strides to threaten the edge. He converts speed to power on his bull rush and has a nice hump move that sends offensive linemen flying past the pocket. He’s quick and accurate with his hands, using swipes and punches to bat away blocks and keep himself clean. His powerful and effective push/pull move sends opponents lunging, and he shows bend at the top of his rush to dip his shoulder, get low, and flatten to the quarterback. In the run game, he shocks opponents with heavy hands, stacking them to hold his ground and play his gap. He stays low, keeping his leverage, and creates push to disrupt run lanes and turn the back toward his help.
Bain is a bit of a tweener, and the arm-length concerns could mean teams see him as an interior defensive tackle and not an edge. He has a relatively small tackle radius, and missed tackles have been a concern, with a 20 percent career missed tackle rate, per PFF. While he brings first-step burst off the snap, there are times he loses steam and stops his feet after his initial contact with opponents. Sometimes his aggressive style pulls him out of position. He’ll overrun a play or come in too hot and allow a ballcarrier to spill away.
