VictorWembanyama

Preseason question: How much higher can Wembanyama climb? Wembanyama enters his fourth season in the NBA as the best player in the world, at least according to our rankings—and the youngest man to earn this slot in the history of The Ringer’s Top 100—but his greatness formula is unique. There’s no question that he’s the most dominant defender on the planet; after all, he just won Defensive Player of the Year unanimously. But for as outrageous as Wemby already is, there are still questions about his offensive greatness. Compared to the other players at the top of our rankings, the 22-year-old Frenchman lacks a fully formed identity on that end. The offensive software is still loading. He lacks a signature move. His passing isn’t quite mature. But ask anyone who’s tried to guard him recently, and they’ll tell you he’s hard to handle. That’s the scary part. This guy is still years away from his prime, and as he matures into his mid-20s, there’s still a lot of time for him to become one of the world’s best offensive players too.
