Preseason question: Can Ant finish in the top five for MVP? Edwards has never placed higher than seventh in the Most Valuable Player race, even though he’s already established himself as an elite scorer (only Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged more points per game last season) on a competitive team that’s respected by pretty much everyone who follows the NBA. Forget about the gregarious personality and sensational Adidas ad campaign, Ant’s game is endearing. He can shoot, slash, and dunk on literally anyone, his technically precise handle and footwork his fallback plan. Ideally, alongside LaMelo Ball, Edwards won’t see as many double-teams or face such a dense crowd on his forays into the paint. This is his time to shine as the tip of Minnesota’s spear. It’ll be interesting to see what that does for his undeniably impressive career, which should be able to climb even higher.
