‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,’ Ch. 31-34

Mallory Rubin and Jason Concepcion continue their journey through the Potterverse by examining the theme of innocence lost

Hello! (Yeah!) And welcome to Binge Mode! Mallory Rubin and Jason Concepcion continue their exploration of the Harry Potter universe by diving deep into Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, chapters 31-34. To help guide you on that journey, here is a map of the 22nd episode of Binge Mode: Harry Potter. It’s not quite as detailed as the Marauder’s Map, but don’t fear: The podcast is just as magical.

  1. Mallory and Jason start their journey, of course, on the Hogwarts Express, providing a brief refresher on what actually happened in these four chapters. Harry and Cedric both grab the cup to win the third Triwizard task, Cedric dies after the secret portkey takes them to the Little Hangleton graveyard, and Voldemort returns to his body, though Harry escapes after they duel.
  2. They continue by diving into the Pensieve, where they analyze the central theme of this section of the book: innocence lost.
  3. Next, they sneak into the Restricted Section to teach us everything we need to know about Death Eaters.
  4. After reemerging from that section of the library, Mallory and Jason discuss the Seven, where they share their seven favorite insights and observations from this swath of chapters.
  5. Finally, they award the House Cup to a worthy winner of the four chapters. This episode’s recipient is Lord Voldemort, who returns to life and re-ignites his reign of magical terror.

On Wednesday, Mallory and Jason return for Episode 23 of Binge Mode: Harry Potter, in which they will break down chapters 35-37 of Goblet of Fire.
