Preseason question: The offseason growth spurt is a time-honored tradition of NBA myth building. These days, most of these claims are largely absurdist memes designed to amplify the PR campaigns run by various Muse accounts on social media. But when Flagg himself says that he’s now 6-foot-10 without shoes, we’re inclined to believe him. So what kind of leap are we in for in year two? The 2025-26 Rookie of the Year had some monstrous highs: a four-game span in late January and early February wherein he averaged 37.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.8 blocks—all with absurd shooting efficiency—then there was his ROY campaign closing statement in April, when he scored 51 points against the Magic and followed it up with 45 against the Lakers two nights later. All of this in an exploratory year one designed to find the limits of Flagg’s two-way talent—boundary lines that still haven’t been drawn. He is a relentless driver who creates leverage by getting lower than anyone his size ought to be able to, he is already one of the best shot-blocking wings in the league, and playing next to an offensive dynamo like Kyrie Irving will only help him process the floor more quickly than he already does. If Flagg can get his 3-ball back to the levels he exhibited at Duke, he could quickly become one of the most complete players in the game, years ahead of his prime.
