FX’s excellent docu-drama ended last night, but we haven’t heard the last of it. Below, Chris Ryan and Amanda Dobbins preview The People v. O.J. Simpson’s continuing influence.
The O.J. Industrial Complex
There’s O.J.: Made in America, the upcoming ESPN documentary that people at Sundance lost their minds over. Then there’s Martin Sheen’s doomed quest for relevance in the form of Hard Evidence: O.J. Simpson Is Innocent, to air on Investigation Discovery. (Shrug emoji.) Also, next year O.J. is up for parole following his 2008 robbery-and-kidnapping conviction. We will be living with this one for a while.
The Ongoing ’90s Renaissance
This series, Jonah Hill’s upcoming Mid ’90s, the Smashing Pumpkins reunion show … something is in the air. Don’t be surprised if Cameron Crowe revisits the Singles universe.
Marcia Clark
You know who has not been shy about the People v. O.J. press tour? Marcia Clark, who has popped up just about everywhere to enjoy her newly restored reputation. Some sort of legal talk show seems inevitable (and deserved, frankly, given Episode 6). Shout-out to you, Marcia.
Emmys
Courtney B. Vance? Sterling K. Brown? Sarah Paulson? Connie Britton? A better question would be: Who isn’t getting nominated for this one?
Travolta and Travolta’s Eyebrows
True story: John Travolta apparently enjoyed his run on The People v. O.J. so much that he’s campaigning to be on Season 2 of American Crime Story. (It’ll be about Katrina, and Travolta is already devising scenes based on his experience doing cleanup in New Orleans. Good luck, Ryan Murphy!) Whether or not that happens, please pay attention to male grooming trends in fall 2016, when we expect Travolta Brow to go mainstream. And speaking of eyebrows …
The Rob Morrow Comeback!
Along with his role as Adam DeGiulio in Billions, Morrow’s turn as Barry Scheck in The People v. O.J. is the first shot in the Rob Morrow Revolution. Mark our words, you’ll be hearing about a Northern Exposure reboot and a Quiz Show sequel before the year is out. The Brow is back!
