Brockton DT is one to watch for

William Carruthers is a 6’3” 303 pound defensive lineman
from Brockton Massachusetts. Carruthers has not been
offered by a division one program quite yet, but is
still one of the best defensive line prospects in the
northeast. Many may disagree with the possibility of
that statement because of the overgrown sentiment that
has enveloped itself in college football recruiting.
That sentiment is that if a high school player has no
offers, he must not be good enough to play at the next
level. When finding ways to prove this notion false, I
look no farther than William Carruthers.
Carruthers was apart of a 9-2 Brockton Boxer team whose
successful season was cut short by Xaverian Brothers
High School. Xaverian would later go on to win the EMass
super bowl, but that only added to the disappointment
for Carruthers and the Boxers as well. “I think we were
successful this year, but we definitely could’ve gone a
bit further too.”
Despite the graduation of some key players in Brockton,
the Boxers have returning talent that could make them a
favorite to be atop their conference once again in 2010.
On a more personal level, William Carruthers believes he
has the ability to take the next step and be able to
anchor a defense that will heavily rely on him next
season.
“I think I did okay [last season] but I am looking for a
much more dominant season. Last year we had more of a
rotation because we had a lot of seniors. This year it’s
going to be a more dominant performance by me because of
increased playing time.”
There is no doubt Carruthers possesses that dominant
talent, but even a player of his stature and potential
knows there is always an aspect of the game to improve
on
“My power and my hand placement are talents that make me
dominant on the field, but I think I can definitely
improve on my lateral quickness as well as my quickness
in general.”
While it is true Carruthers has not received an offer
yet, there is no doubt he has received heavy interest
from some very prestigious schools across the country.
“NC State and Arkansas are showing me a lot of interest
right now. Syracuse and Wisconsin are some other schools
that have shown their interest. Wisconsin is showing a
little bit of love right now. NC State may actually be
my first offer because they’ve talked to me about
offering me.”
While Carruthers thinks about multiple offers he could
receive very shortly, he told me some characteristics of
colleges he appreciates the most.
“I mainly look for the location, tradition, academics,
and the frequency of playing in bowl games. I really
want to go to a school that receives a good amount of
national attention as well.”
Interest from various schools are not a rare occurrence
for Carruthers, he even admits that a better academic
report could contribute to even greater interest from
more and more programs.
The upcoming months will be full of traveling for
Carruthers, as he plans on heading down and taking in
some scenery in the south.
“In the next few months I’m going down to a one day camp
in North Carolina as well as the Arkansas spring game.”
I’m also going to the Rivals 5 Star Combine and the NC
State combine as well. I might go to the Boston College
camp this summer, but I don’t know yet.”
Brockton comes into the 2010 season with a nucleus of
seniors, (Carruthers included) and many players have the
expectation of a taking a redemption tour en route to
being crowned super bowl champs. Carruthers knows the
team is going to have to stay in tact both mentally and
physically to get back to such a prominent position. “I
think we’re super bowl bound if we can stay focused. If
we can stay focused, then I think we can beat every team
on our schedule. Our toughest game will be against St.
Peters Prep (NJ). If we can beat them, we could get a
lot of national attention.”
As his teammates recruitment has cooled down, (Albert
Louis-Jean committed to Miami) William Carruthers’
recruitment is just starting to heat up. The gasoline of
his recruitment is being spread across the nation. All
that’s needed is a spark, and programs across the nation
will catch wind of his outstanding talent. If everything
goes as planned for William, we’re going to have one
less player in the Northeast without a D-1 offer.

Daniels plans to take his time

Every recruit and recruitnik alike knows how
crazy college football recruiting can become.
For some it's crazier than others and for some
the 'crazy' is what makes the experience so much
fun. Vernon Hills (Illinois) wide receiver
prospect Davaris Daniels would be one of the
'some' on both counts.
