Lavaedeay “Vad” Lee, 6-2, 195, North Carolina
quarterback moments ago made his college football
decision known. He had this to say about why he chose
the Yellow Jackets, “Georgia Tech: great city, great
fans, great coaches, great program, and great academics,
those are all the main reasons why I chose Georgia Tech.
It just has everything you want. It is just a beautiful
city.”
“It is good to have great football in a great city with
great fans. It is just a good combination. The coaches
really impacted my decision. I built a great
relationship with all of the coaches. I know almost
every coach’s name, first and last. It is just the right
fit for me.”
One coach that really stood out to Lee during the
recruiting process was his recruiting coordinator at
Georgia Tech, Andy McCollum.
“Coach McCollum is my recruiting coordinator. McCollum
is a great guy. He just came from North Carolina so he
pretty much knows the roots of North Carolina. I had a
better relationship with him than any other recruiting
coordinator so that was a huge factor. He did a great
job recruiting me.”
Lee visited Georgia Tech this past Saturday for a
scrimmage. One thing that really stood out to him was
the fans chanting, “We want Vad, we want Vad.” If that
was not already enough to make him feel comfortable in
Atlanta, a great bond with current Tech commitment Jeff
Greene was.
“Jeff Greene and I were texting a little before I went
down on my visit this past weekend. I actually got to
meet him at the scrimmage. He is a great guy. He is a
legit 6-6. My nickname for him is “6-6.” If things break
down in the game all I have to do is throw it up to big
“6-6” and hopefully he can come down and make the play.
I am really looking forward to having a great connection
with him.”
When asked if he was done with the recruiting process
after giving his pledge to Georgia Tech “Vad” had this
to say, “I will not take visits, but I do plan to go to
some games. I love going to watch great competition.”
“One game I am really looking forward to going to is the
Duke and Alabama game. I know that is big for the
community in Durham. I just want to see Alabama in
person, myself, play Duke. I might go to UNC once
throughout the season. I would not necessarily call them
visits, but I would still like to be a part of college
football on Saturdays.”
Some prospects commit to their college of choice, then
relax, and settle back down into everyday life. Vad is
doing quite the opposite. He has already been on the
phone trying to get some prospects to join him at
Georgia Tech. “I have been talking to Dominique Noble
and TreMayne McNair a lot since they are North Carolina
guys. Those are the people I have been talking to about
Tech so far.”
“Once I make this decision and once it gets out,
hopefully it can impact a lot of them. We are North
Carolina kids so it would be a great opportunity. We
also have Airyn Willis who already committed so that is
four North Carolina kids on Georgia Tech. It will just
be a fun experience going to another state to play
football”
Strengths: “One of my strengths is my ability to stay in
the pocket and then if it breaks down I can always take
off and run. My arm strength is pretty good. Also I can
break down a defense and read it to be able to tell what
is coming at me. I can see blitzes and get the ball out
of my hands.”
Needs work: “I can clean up a little bit of my footwork
and my drop backs. I work every day on my footwork. I am
just trying to get better at everything I do.”
Redshirt?: “I am really not sure yet. That really plays
a hand in what I do when I get there [Georgia Tech.] It
just depends on how I do and then the decision will be
made then.”
