Mississippi State gives Whitehead that 'feeling'
By Miles Fomby | 4/14/10 | Email

Athlete Jermaine Whitehead, 6’3”, 183-pounds, committed to Mississippi State this afternoon. He spoke on why Starkville was the place for him and the factors that went into his decision. His recruiting coordinator coach Melvin Smith was the first to hear the great news.

“I talked to coach Smith and just told him I thought it was a good place for me. I would like to make a quick impacted. It just feels like home. It has kind of been where I have wanted to go my whole life. It is a big nice place for me. I am ready to go fit in.”

“It is close to home. I have been down there quite a bit. I know the staff. I know a lot about the school. It is a place on the rise. It is up and coming. The fact that I can help a Mississippi school win a BCS [championship] is great.”

Coach Dan Mullen and coach Melvin Smith played a key role in landing the defensive standout.

“The first thing I noticed about coach Mullen is he is a ‘Tebow.’ I know he is a winner. I want to play with one [a winner] and for one [a winner]. That is the definition of coach Mullen to me.”

“Coach Smith is my position coach and my recruiting coordinator. They are recruiting me to play cornerback.”

“He told me not worrying about getting ready because I can return punts, play receiver, play corner, and play safety. He told me I was going to have a chance to play. That really kind of won me over. Early playing time was a big factor. He talked to me about how he coached corner.”

He spoke on how committed he was to The Bulldogs and if he would still take visits in the future.

“I am 100% committed. I will still take my visits, but Mississippi State is where I want to be.”

When asked if he would be in Starkville this weekend for Mississippi State’s spring game Whitehead replied, “Most definitely. I talked with coach and he said ‘I know you are coming in town. ’

“I said ‘yes sir.’ I had already planned to visit. I was kind of was going to commit then I put it off. I just got this feeling where you know that it is coming. I got that feeling and Mississippi State is cool.”

He has plans to early enroll at Mississippi State and is working towards that this spring.

“I am talking to my school counselor now about enrolling early. I want to get in and learn the stuff as soon as possible.”

Jermaine reports a 3.7 GPA and a 23 ACT.

Daniels plans to take his time

Every recruit and recruitnik alike knows how crazy college football recruiting can become. For some it's crazier than others and for some the 'crazy' is what makes the experience so much fun. Vernon Hills (Illinois) wide receiver prospect Davaris Daniels would be one of the 'some' on both counts.

Conner Crowell is torching an Oregon trail!

Settle down tree huggers, it’s just a figure of speech.  You can take Smokey the bear off your speed dial now.

What I mean to say is that Crowell is on a hot streak right now.  He’s nearly cemented his position as one of the top 20 performers on the 2010 Nike Combine..

1. ND feels really good about Bubba Starling but I have no idea who the main competition would be, could you help me out there?
-wicket

Notre Dame should feel really good about it's chances right now and wherever Starling ends up will be getting him for baseball as well, so that's going to be a huge factor.
