Jabari Gorman Q&A
By Kevin Ledford | 4/18/10 | Email

Jabari Gorman of Monsignor Pace High School in Miami, FL is one of the most sought after prospects in the state. The 5’10.5”, 170-pound Gorman stars on both sides of the ball for the Spartans and currently holds more than 20 offers from schools all across the country. TR recently caught up with Jabari to ask him a few questions about his recruitment.

KML: How would you describe yourself as a player?
Jabari: I’m physical, I’m very fast, I’m very humble and I bring energy to the game.

KML: Do you have any trips planned in the near future?
Jabari: This weekend I’ll be taking a visit to the University of Central Florida and next week I’ll be going to the Ohio State spring game and previously I went to UM for an unofficial visit and that’s pretty much it right now.

KML: I know you have a ton of offers, do you remember them off the top of your head?
Jabari: No, not every last one, but some standouts are University of Miami, Ohio State, Stanford, Indiana, Purdue, USF, Minnesota, University of North Carolina, Texas Tech, LSU, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Wisconsin…

KML: And I guess all those schools are recruiting you as a cornerback?
Jabari: Yeah, pretty much as a DB.

KML: I noticed in your film it looked like you played a lot of safety and maybe even some linebacker…is that right?
Jabari: Right. Pretty much safety.

KML: Well you definitely have the skills to play either corner or safety, do you have a preference at the next level?
Jabari: I’m not really familiar with cornerback but I always play it when I go to camps. So I think it would be just the same as at camp. I feel that I’d do good. I’m a person that learns very quickly and wants to learn so me just going out on the field and being taught by one of the best coaches in the nation, it won’t be a problem.

KML: So who would you say is recruiting you the hardest?
Jabari: Pretty much everyone, but mostly Ohio State and UM.

KML: And do you have a favorite right now or are you open?
Jabari: I’m pretty much wide open right now. I’m pretty much focused on this spring coming up. I have a very young unit, so there’s a lot of development we have to do right now and then I’m trying to make sure my grades and test scores match all the qualifications.

KML: Are there any particular coaches that you feel you’ve built a strong relationship with?
Jabari: Yeah, Coach Haynes from Ohio State, Coach Shannon, Coach McGriff, and Coach Bedford from Louisville.

KML: When do you plan on committing?
Jabari: I think I’ll commit during the middle of the season or at the end of the season at the all-star game, either all-star game I participate in as far as the Under Armour or the US Army game.

KML: What kind of goals do you have for your senior season?
Jabari: Leadership, a state championship, at least 2 picks a game or one. On defense I want to have over 100 tackles and on offense 1000 yards running and receiving. I know that’s pretty big, but I gotta think big right now.

KML: Absolutely. You have to set the bar high in order to have something to strive for. So you’re gonna play a lot of receiver too this year?
Jabari: Right.

KML: So are any schools recruiting you as a receiver or is it pretty much all DB?
Jabari: Some schools are looking at me as a receiver. LSU is looking at me as both, some schools are looking at me as both. I know Alabama wanted to try me at wide receiver too. So they just want to see where I’m comfortable at.

KML: Is there anything you’d like to add in closing?
Jabari: None of this is possible without God, my family, my friends and my coaches.

Daniels plans to take his time

Every recruit and recruitnik alike knows how crazy college football recruiting can become. For some it's crazier than others and for some the 'crazy' is what makes the experience so much fun. Vernon Hills (Illinois) wide receiver prospect Davaris Daniels would be one of the 'some' on both counts.

Offers piling up for Dondi Kirby

Darelle Revis is a name that has been used nearly every time during an interview of a cornerback. His athletic ability alone is something to marvel at, but he brings another dimension to his game; his instincts. Regardless, very few can compare to Revis’ qualities on the field, but even fewer can say that he is a relative. “Darelle Revis is family and Justin King is my first cousin. He plays cornerback for the St. Louis Rams. You could say that Darelle Revis is my idol though.”

1. ND feels really good about Bubba Starling but I have no idea who the main competition would be, could you help me out there?
-wicket

Notre Dame should feel really good about it's chances right now and wherever Starling ends up will be getting him for baseball as well, so that's going to be a huge factor.
