Looking for another championship

Last season
was a high school quarterback’s dream for Dwyer High
(Palm Beach Gardens, FL) QB Jacoby Brissett. He led the
Panthers to the 4A State Championship while distributing
the ball to playmakers like Matt Elam, Gerald Christian,
Robert Clark and Nick O’Leary. Obviously, Brissett is a
playmaker in his own right. Last season he threw for
1,463 yards with 19 touchdowns and only five
interceptions while adding 296 rushing yards and earning
4A second team All-State QB honors in the process, along
with the aforementioned State Title.
But don’t expect Dwyer to take a step back in 2010.
Sure, they lose a lot of talent from last season’s
magical team as Elam, Christian and Clark have moved on,
but the 6’5” 230-pound Brissett is determined to
duplicate last season’s success.
“Yeah that’s our main goal (winning another state
championship), to prove to everybody that just because
we lose those guys doesn’t mean we lose our team.”
Dwyer will be in the national spotlight again this year
starting with a matchup against Glenville High (OH) on
September 6 at Ohio State University as part of the
annual Kirk Herbstreit Football Series in what promises
to be a great game between two loaded teams.
As for the recruiting process, Brissett is in no hurry.
He holds offers from Minnesota, Marshall, Rutgers, West
Virginia, South Florida, Florida International,
Wisconsin and Boston College. Other schools are also
showing interest such as Florida State, Miami, LSU,
Georgia, Ohio State, Illinois, Central Florida, Florida
and Tennessee.
“I don’t have a favorite, I’m just letting recruiting
come at me and I’ll just start to make my choice as the
decision making goes along,” says Brissett. “The big
thing is I want to run a pro-style offense so I can
throw the ball. I don’t want to just come in and hand
the ball off a lot and stuff. But I want to see a school
that’s got a good education, a big school and like the
history of the school . What they produce and the amount
of athletes and my playing time will play a big role
too,” he adds.
Jacoby has another decision to make as well. You see,
he’s also a standout on the Dwyer basketball team so I
asked him if he had plans to play on the hardwood at the
next level in addition to the gridiron.
“I don’t really know right now. That’s one of the big
decisions I have to make, so I’m just waiting to see all
my options and then I’ll come up with a decision,” he
responded.
Brissett doesn’t have a leader at the moment, but he
does admit to being a Matt Ryan and Boston College fan.
“Yeah (laughs) that’s one of the main reasons I like
them. That’s like my favorite quarterback…one of them.”
He plans on waiting until next school year to take his
visits once he has accumulated more offers and takes the
ACT, but he does hope to participate in Steve Clarkson’s
Super 7 Showcase in Maui and attend the University of
Florida’s “Friday Night Lights” camp over the summer.
Jacoby Brissett is a 5.8/4 star and comes in at #197 in
the latest TR 250.

Daniels plans to take his time

Every recruit and recruitnik alike knows how
crazy college football recruiting can become.
For some it's crazier than others and for some
the 'crazy' is what makes the experience so much
fun. Vernon Hills (Illinois) wide receiver
prospect Davaris Daniels would be one of the
'some' on both counts.
